A few examples of how innovation meets at the crossroads of design and customer needs are its design of an underground tri-strand cable pulling trailer with 3 independently powered reels with tensioning brakes. This self-propelled reel carrier was developed to meet the needs of a major California utility company that developed an innovative, efficient and cost saving approach for underground work. In addition, Allegheny designed and built a special reel carrier for an Alphabet Access (Google) company that needed a piece of equipment that would accommodate the tether for an alternative electric energy source - energy kites that fly autonomously in loops creating airflow that creates airflow that is many times faster than the wind experienced by a stationary object. The challenge was to create a reel and carrier that could accommodate the tension of the tether of the kite.
