Covenant Presbyterian Church

We are confident according to Scripture that it is the Holy Spirit who changes lives. As much as we would like to be, we are not the Holy Spirit. However we are responsible for planting and watering. The main way in which we plant and water is through the "means of grace;" primarily Word, Prayer, and Sacrament. Word: We are to be faithful in preaching and teaching God's word faithfully to his people. We are to be faithful in preaching and teaching Christ in all of Scripture. Prayer: We are to be in prayer at all times for God's people, for God's will to be done, and for the working of the Holy Spirit to make us more like Christ. Sacrament: Jesus gave the church two sacraments - Baptism and the Lord's Supper. We are to be faithful in administering these two sacraments for both sacraments points us to what Jesus has done, is doing, and will do to redeem his people. We must be faithful to preach God's word, we must be faithful in prayer, and we must continually administer the sacraments but it is only Christ who can and does change people. Our theology of ministry can be summed up by using the Heidelberg Catechism, Question 1.What is your only comfort in life and in death?That I am not my own, but belong— body and soul, in life and in death— to my faithful Savior Jesus Christ. He has fully paid for all my sins with his precious blood, and has set me free from the tyranny of the devil. He also watches over me in such a way that not a hair can fall from my head without the will of my Father in heaven: in fact, all things must work together for my salvation. Because I belong to him, Christ, by his Holy Spirit, assures me of eternal life and makes me wholeheartedly willing and ready from now on to live for him.
