Kudumbam is a rural development organization established in 1982, by a group of environmental activists Dr.Nammalvar, Mr.Oswald and Mr.Periyanayagasamy working for sustainable development in Tamil Nadu, South India.The main focus of Kudumbam is to uplift small and marginal resource poor farmers and landless agricultural laborers and to empower widows, single women, orphan children and differently abled people. In the main office is Located in Tiruchirapalli (Trichy) with 16 employees.In 1990, Kudumbam has established Kolunji Ecological Farm cum training center at Odugampatti, Keeranur, Pudukkottai District with extensive soil and water harvesting methods, agro forestry models, animal crop integration, country birds, goat and sheep units, nursery unit, preparation of use of bio inputs and value addition of agro produces. The prime objective in establishing these models is to motivate and re-establish farmers' faith in dry land farming. In the farm trainings on integrated farming, bio input preparation, nursery raising, roof top gardening and capacity building and leadership trainings have been conducted for the farmers, students and youth and other professionals.Kudumbam has project activities in 125 villages around Kolunji Ecological farm, in Pudukottai District with 20 staff. Techniques of water harvesting, improving of soil health through organic intervention, integration of crop – trees & animals, promotion of traditional millets & pulses for ensuring better food security, value addition of organic products, collective marketing of organic produce, promotion of micro credit and right based education to the school/college students are some of the priority activities of kudumbam. In the farm, we have a children's Home called Vidivelli for the orphaned/semi orphaned children from the working villages of kudumbam, who are given boarding, lodging and educational facilities free of cost.
