This particular area includes all the land between. Turin and Asti and the left bank of the Tanaro river. Roero and Monticello d'Alba have been famous locations for winemaking since the Roman Empire. In particular, a very popular commercial route that connected Hasta (Asti) and Pollentia (Pollenzo) with France passed through the village of Monticello d'Alba. From the writings of Pliny the Elder (AD 23 – AD 79) we can infer that this region was already known for its wines and for its vases produced in the area referred to as Amphorianum.The entire vineyard of MonteOliveto di Casà covers an area of about 37 acres (15 hectares), 17 of which are fully dedicated to viticulture. The family keeps the property of the land but the region slowly decayed over the past 150 years and the fame of the quality production became just a memory. In 1998 Giacomo and Gianni Mollo start thinking of an environmental project that would one day restore the splendor of the hill of MonteOliveto: that will consist in vineyards, fruit trees, truffles and a number of micro cultivation that were typical in the Roero region and that are now slowly disappearing. Ever since they started a work of reclamation of land followed by the design of a winery and a ciabot (in Piedmontese, "house in the middle of vineyards"). The first vines of Barbera and Nebbiolo in 2008. The project of MonteOliveto is still evolving and is quickly acquiring recognition and appreciation among the producers of the region.
