The Mozambique School Lunch Initiative is a non-profit organization that takes a holistic approach to improve child nutrition, education, and ultimately create pathways out of poverty in rural communities. Our flagship program is a community school lunch program, which provides nutritious, freshly-cooked meals to students in rural schools. The food is purchased from local farmer groups, ensuring quality, reducing transport, and generating income for the local economy. We also run a preschool program, serving children ages 3-5 years, aiming to bring the nutritional and educational benefits to younger children. The preschool children receive free breakfast and lunch, ensuring they have the nutrition they need at a critical stage in their growth and development.We also run a secondary school initiative, which provides school buses for children living in rural areas to attend the nearest secondary school (grades 8-12). This is accompanied by a weekly mentorship and empowerment program, aiming to build students' self-confidence, skills, and aspirations for a brighter future.Finally, in 2022, we launched a social enterprise producing nutritious foods like peanut butter to sell in the market and generate a source of revenue to fund the organization's other programs.
