Through special projects the activist education institute provides research-based education, consultation, planning, and support services to community centered organizations working in boundary-crossing areas of social justice and partnership building. The projects and programs, serving a network of like-minded nonprofit and civic organizations, help draw the connections between the theory of care and the action of care, between the words used and the meaning of the words. Education and experiential service programs deploy dozens of practical ideas and methods for teaching and demonstrating concrete ways of crossing the boundaries of separation and isolation in an age made more complex by identity politics and intense pluralism. Results of the programs include positive, measurable improvements in capacity building.
