TNRFCI (The Natural Resource Foundation Conservation Initiative) is a Nonprofit Organization with a combined focus of Land and Natural Resources Conservation and Animal Welfare Advocacy in conjunction with North Carolina Animal Shelters.TNRFCI's mission is to provide help with resources to acquire new sustainable, energy-efficient, eco-friendly facilities and locations, for North Carolina Animal Shelters that are grounded in sustainable Green Building principles and Conservation Efforts. Many NC County Shelters are in desperate need of renovation and updating, but have no funding allocated in their county budgets. Our mission is to provide a means to integrate a less institutional environment through eco-friendly building and engineering design for installation in uneconomic flood designated land areas. We utilize sustainable methods and engineering design to work with each county's unique natural land areas and create a low-stress environment for the necessity of city or county animal control. These environmental-friendly trails are composed of natural simple obstacle courses to showcase the potential for integrating natural elements into animal shelters for sensory enrichment, animal rehabilitation and exercise. These Park and Trail conceptual designs are developed and tested to have zero impact on wetlands or natural resources to maintain a balanced environment that integrates seamlessly in the landscape. Any land-related modifications (erosion control, grading, retention/detention ponds, etc.) are always per engineer recommendation for regulatory environmental compliance. This focus is ensures as to not create any negative environmental impact and protect adjacent property areas. Ongoing studies are in place to determine elements needed to prevent soil erosion and mimic the drainage patterns, as well as protect the area wildlife habitat in maintaining the natural buffers at the property boundaries.
