Prominently positioned on the cobbled high street in the medieval town of Rye, it is a Grade II listed bolt-hole offering a welcoming retreat for foodies and design lovers.Rye is a maze of cobbled streets and tiny passage ways. Home to Henry James' Lamb House, a church which is nearly a millennium old, and the Ypres Tower, which dates from 1250. A few miles away lies Camber Sands, the longest stretch of sandy beach in East Sussex.A former coaching inn, The George in Rye dates back from 1575. Rooms feature Vi-Spring beds, Frette linen, William Holland copper and zinc baths, power showers, REN products, flat screen TVs, and free WIFI. The George Grill, overlooking the high street, offers modern British food, served with impeccable, friendly style in relaxed surroundings. The menu features Rye Bay seafood, Romney Marsh lamb and local vegetables cooked primarily on a wood charcoal grill. The handsome, teal dining room has been designed and furnished entirely from reclaimed finds, The George Tap bar remains the social hub of Rye, championing locally-produced drinks and wines from vineyards in Kent and Sussex. The George in Rye is one of the most elegant wedding venues in Sussex and Kent. The original Georgian ballroom with its silk-handpainted wallpaper, chandeliers and enormous bay windows, seats up to 120 people. The adjoining 17th century Benson room is ideal for more intimate weddings. Both rooms are licensed for weddings.
