Lake Victoria, the second largest fresh water lake in the world (by area), supports over 40 million inhabitants in Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania. However, the lake is in danger. Threatened by plastic and water pollution, climate change, overfishing, habitat destruction and biodiversity loss, scientists are warning that the lake is dying. The Lake Victoria Clean Up Project was brought to life by Mutumba Faisal from the Uganda Junior Rangers. The Lake Victoria Clean Up Project will support the local communities in Uganda by working with fishers to remove ghost gear and other plastic pollution and ensure further pollution is prevented. To close the loop, the nets and plastic will be recycled and upcycled into products that benefit the community.
