The Wolf Education & Research Center began in 1996 after an Idaho filmmaker completed his movies and the wolves needed a home. They were known as the Sawtooth Pack: Wolves of the Nez Perce and were perhaps the most famous pack of wolves in the world. In 2008, my team participated in a rescue operation of 17 wolves referred to as the Owyhee Pack and five of them came to know "Wolf Camp" as their home. One wolf remains as our operations moves to a more strategic location near Winchester, Idaho. WERC partners with educational developers to create exciting classroom material that introduces more people to apex predators. Our mission is to provide the highest quality captive animal care and education possible and inspire greater public tolerance toward apex predators. We engage the public to support sustainable relationships with nature to become a social norm. Our vision is a growing community who work toward a more sustainable relationship with nature. This is achieved through captive animal care, regional interpretive programs, and ongoing development of contemporary media.
