The aim of City of Hope is to educate and develop the full potential of poorest young people that live in Lusaka (ZAMBIA), especially the orphans and vulnerable children, by promoting their dignity and rights through education and skills training, in consideration of gender equality, health awareness, social integration, as a positive framework in the fight against poverty and the HIV/AIDS pandemic.City of Hope consists of:1) A Home for Girls-at-Risk: a home where the girls, (referred through Social Welfare), feel secure and loved, and where they can grow in self-esteem to successfully move on to be productive and honest individuals;2) An Open Community School: education is offered to over 800 students between the ages of 9 and 17. Over a 4year period, they learn the subjects offered at primary school level. After this, they are given an opportunity to write the government grade 7 exams. The school also works to provide a feeding programme, offering high protein supplementary food for our pupils, as no child can be expected to properly learn on an empty stomach. For many, this is the child's main meal.3) A Skills Training Centre: it provides technical, vocational and entrepreneurship training to young women and men, as well as basic education and women development interventions. Courses: Hotel and Catering Services, Information Technology, Pattern and Designing, Housekeeping.To run such a project, 60 local people are employed, plus the Volunteers and the Sisters.
