The Local Health Unit of Matosinhos is a Corporate Public Entity, integrated in the National Health Service, which provides primary, hospital, and long-term health care.It was the first Local Health Unit to be established in Portugal in 1999, and its vision is the excellence of the integrated health care provided to its patients, based on principles of humanity, cooperation, and innovation.The philosophy of ULSM is to put the users at the centre of the system, to identify their health needs, and to meet them, strengthening the bonds of trust over its life cycle.The ULSM comprises the Hospital Pedro Hispano, the grouping of Matosinhos Health Centres and the Convalescence Unit.
